There’s a lovely pictures of Naomi showing her wares to (from the left); the glamorous Agent Lynch, pin-up model Fleur de Guerre, Lena from Queens of Vintage, Lucy Jones, artists Tinsel Edwards and Twinkle Troughton (I think Twinkle is hiding behind a coat!)Here are the other pictures taken that evening:

Vintage Secret in the Press

Those of you who’ve been fans of Vintage Secret for a while now will know that it has gradually developed from an online boutique, to more of a Vintage lifestyle site. We decided to create an Events page to share with everyone the wonderful parties and happenings we hear about, and give people a chance to plan their outfits! The Observer recently recommended us as THE place to hear about period events- Have a look here.
Hot on its heels, The Telegraph interviewed Vintage Secret’s Naomi about the retro-socialising scene:
“There is something very relevant in Forties values,” says 26-year-old Naomi Thompson, founder of London clothing store, Vintage Secret – which quickly evolved into a retro-socialising phenomenon when she began inviting clients to her Forties-themed home to browse merchandise over tea and a slice of home-made cake. “It’s all about make do and mend, growing your own food and talking to people. It’s about being social.”
How right she is! To read the full article, click here.

Last of the summer parties…

For those of you who may be worrying about the onset of Autumn and the end of summer, never fear! The best is yet to come, with Vintage Secret participating in a number of fantastic vintage events lined up for the end of the season. Following the huge success of The White Blackbird, Time for Tea are transporting party-goers out of London for another night of country house antics, expect a bouncy castle, a gourmet jelly feast and cinema screenings of technicolor classics, all washed down with colourscape cocktails.Vintage Secret will be on hand to lend you some gladrags should you arrive and feel your outfit is wanting, or if you fancy a costume change before posing for the old fashioned portrait photographer. Read about how to get tickets for the event on the 28th August here.

On the 5th September, Vintage Secret’s favourite pin-up girl, Fleur de Guerre is hosting a wonderfully British tea time event with the fabulous Emerald Fontaine; Scandalous High Socie-Tea (don’t you just love the name!?)The pair will be transforming The Fox pub and its roof garden into a thoroughly British affair, complete with bunting, Pimms and cake served on vintage china from yours truly, Vintage Secret@Home. Add some jazz, gin and scantily clad dancing girls, and you have the recipe for a truly scandalous amount of fun!Read more about the event on the Vintage Secret Events Page.
And yet more vintage escapades from the people who brought you Prohibition and the Blitz parties;prepare to set sail for some retro glamour with the SS Atlantica. Expect the venue to imitate a 1930s ocean liner, with floorshows, cabaret dancing and champagne a plenty.Men are encouraged to emulate the starched collar and immaculate dinner suit of an Agatha Christie villain, whilst ladies can take their inspiration from the silk and fur ensembles worn by stars of the silver screen- do email us with your wardrobe needs and we’ll happily style you!

Liberty Print Fash Mob

As you probably know, Vintage Secret is more than a tad fond of floral prints- we always have lots in stock- so when we heard that Liberty were holding a Floral Print Fash mob, we just had to join in. Naomi ended up being snapped by Susie Lau of Style Bubble fame, and can now be seen gracing her cult blog, bottom left in the pics.I have been busy turning some of my old Liberty print fabric into hairbows and badges, but am now going to have a go at friendship bracelets- these were given away to the first 50 who arrived- you can see Susie sporting one on her blog too. For more about the winners, have a look here. See their big Liberty bags full of prizes? So.Jealous.
P.S Naomi has her Vintage Stall in the pop-up Vintage market in the Boiler House on Brick Lane for the rest of the weekend- lots of bargains to be had, come and say hello!

Vintage Secret and Friends..

A post now for all the friends of VS- collaboration is the name of the game! We’ve just had a lovely piece posted on the Amelia’s magazine website, interviewing Naomi about all things Vintage, illustrated by some lovely shots of our artist friends Tinsel and Twinkle, modelling our finest wares. Here’s another great shot of Tinsel and Twinkle, DJing at their July night at The Dragon Bar in Shoreditch wearing VS’s best 1950s swimsuits.

Other musically gifted friends of VS include Gabby Young and other animals, pictured here wearing a Vintage Secret Aquascutum sequinned top from the 80s, at Latitude festival where Gabby and her troop were performing. We are NOT responsible for her friend’s matching pants…! Check out Gabby’s style blog here- her make-up is always something special!

Pin-up model and dear friend of VS, Fleur de Guerre posted an exciting ‘save the date’ yesterday- make sure you put 5th September in your diaries if you like dressing up, Pimms, cake, cucumber sandwiches and the like.Oh, she knows her audience!

And in the meantime, pop along to the Vintage market in the Boiler House on Brick Lane this weekend, Friday- Sunday, where Naomi will be running the VS stall- come and try things on, swap vintage tips and generally have a natter!I’ve just inherited a load of Chinese dresses and handbags from the 60s which will be on sale for next to nothing, so come and have a look!

Vintage Secret Summer Shoot

This weekend the VS team took over my parent’s house in ye olde Oxfordshire, to shoot some classic vintage frocks in some luscious landgirl poses.

Missy the dog was very co-operative (though Daisy the pony was less so) and the chickens provided us with a delicious scrambled egg breakfast on Sunday morning.

Naomi couldn’t contain her excitement in the vegetable patch, bringing fresh beetroot, radishes, onions, beans, carrots and garlic back to the big smoke for an organic feast!

Thanks to the lovely Natasha Lovatt for being our main model, and to Alexandra Margulies for doing her stunning victory rolls. Most of the dresses in the shoot are new stock, so they might not be on the site yet, but if you’re interested in any of them, please email us and we can let you know if they are still available and how much they cost.
