*****The Launch Of A Very Secret Salon*****

If you go down to Hackney tonight you are sure of a vintage surprise. Well, a Vintage Secret. Recommended by Vogue and countless other purveyors of fine fashion, for the first time ever we are opening the doors to our headquarters.
The Secret Salon has remained a long kept secret for stylists, musicians and fashionistas and is by appointment only. However we opened it up to the public, offering a number of styling packages for vintage enthusiasts and beginners alike. Viva the fashion Revolution!

Is it another vintage shop? Not at all. The space has been transformed into a boudoir of rare clothing and exciting artefacts, and is home to the largest collection of real vintage in London. Spanning from 1880 onwards the collection includes vintage fashion, period props and magazines, from Le Tout Paris dating from 1918 onwards to 1950′s Elle magazines featuring interviews with Christian Dior no less and patterns for budding designers who fancy creating their own vintage. It also has the UK’s largest collection of never worn before vintage swimwear, a must for the summer months.

Cake is served on a Clarice Cliff cake stand and tea is sipped from the finest bone china. A Hendrick’s cocktail is served upon arrival and poured throughout the evening to the dulcet tunes of 30′s Jazz. A goody bag packed full of treats will be ready for collection when your carriage picks you up.

For those who want to recreate a certain hairstyle or look to match their clothes, a team of vintage make-up artists and glamorous hair stylists are on hand to create the perfect Victory Roll and bow lips* And those wanting to try out the look can benefit from The Salon’s supply of tickets to London’s hottest events, including Prohibition, The Blitz Party, and La Belle Époque.

Best of all – it’s free*. All that stands between you and the sheer escapism of The Salon’s secret time warp is a short bus ride or cab journey to London Fields.

To book an appointment at The Secret Salon please contact: naomi@vintagescret.com

** Hair and make-up can be arranged at a cost of £30 per person (minimum 4 people) This is entirely optional. We can accommodate up to 8 guests.

Kimono love no1

I have mentioned before how much I like a vintage oriental look. Very 1930’s, slightly androgynous, it’s up there with wanting to try out a masculine look in my long list of styles to play with.

I once had a huge collection of 20’s Kimonos. I was an idiot and sold them. If I had them now I would be wearing one with a pair of 30’s style cropped wide leg trousers and my hair in a loose curl side knot for evening drinks. Yes, outside of the house. Remember the Gucci Pyjamas? Well this knocks the bed socks of that fad. Something drapey, made of silk will keep you cool this summer, yet look elegant. Since the kimonos all went to good homes this one below is the next best thing to wear this summer, and a ‘future vintage for sure’.

Made by Ligne De Soie, a company started by Melissa Pelz, a native Californian now living in London, who, noticing a lack of high quality and luxurious, yet functional silk robes at reasonable prices, embarked on a mission to create the perfect robe for herself and her friends.

The signature product – the silk robe –fuses vibrant designs with lush colour palettes, elegant patterns and functional features to create a glamorous, yet comfortable garment featured in eight different styles of various abundant silk fabrics.

And if lounging in one of these luxurious robes isn’t enough incentive, Ligne de Soie is actively involved in women’s charities and has pledged to donate a percentage of each product it sells online to a charity for women through its cause “Beyond Silk.”

I love her website. It features a page on why silk is good for the skin and a gazillion robes to die for. Perfect for the home, the pool the bedroom or play!
