Stumblin’ Slims
On Saturday 1st October 2011 the newest and hottest 1950s Rock N Roll night will be taking place at Village Underground in Shoreditch.
Stumblin’ Slims will recreate the girly glamour and leather clad sexiness of 1950s and 1960s Hollywood in East London with gals in vintage prom dresses and guys in quiffs and tight denim will be revving up the T-birds.
Stumblin’ Slims describe themselves as a cross between Prom Night and a late night drag race meet with a soundtrack of original rock n roll tracks and live bands.
Featuring a DJ set by the beautiful Gizzi Erskine as well as live music from The Langley Sisters, an all-girl three part harmony group whose vintage hits herald back to a golden Hollywood age. Also performing will be The Caezars, one-man boogie band Dollar Bill and DJ duo Hits Don’t Hurt.
Throughout the evening, guests will be able to sip from a (spiked) punch bowl and help themselves fairground-style to popcorn and candyfloss. Marlboro smoking rebels and their bobby socked girlfriends can play spin the bottle in the back of a pickup truck while those without a prom date practice the hand jive and get giggly on milkshake cocktails.
Throughout the night, there will be professional dancers on hand to teach wannabe twisters and jive bunnies in readiness for the Stumblin’ Slims Twist Contest. The winning couple will not only be presented with the coveted twist trophy, but will also win free meals at The Blues Kitchen in Camden.
The Blues Kitchen has become the new home of Rhythm & Blues in London. A genre that has become increasingly popular through rockabilly clubs and Northern Soul nights, Blues and Rock n Roll is now firmly back on to the London radar thanks to the likes of The Blues Kitchen, a venue that offers live music every night until late and DJs plucking tunes from the best record collections in town.
The Blues Kitchen Presents STUMBLIN’ SLIMS Saturday 1st October 2011 8pm – 2am
Village Underground, 54 Holywell Lane, City of London, EC2A 3PQ
Tickets: £15 adv. £20 door

Lots of news!
Hello dear readers, it’s been a busy month at Vintage Secret, and I have looking forward to writing this blog as it symbolises the end of writing something else…my book! Syle Me Vintage: Clothes: A Guide to Sourcing and Creating Retro Looks comes out early next year, and you can pre order a copy here. To give you a quick idea, its half a guide to wearable styles of the 20’s to the 80’s, half all the knowledge and info that I have crammed into my brain over the years, so expect lots of tips on buying , shopping and even my favourite on-line resources! I will be talking more about this in my next blog.
Now that it’s done I can concentrate on what I do best, which is shopping! I am also very excited to announce collaboration with my favourite fair, The Clerkenwell Vintage Fair. I have long adored it as it has the quality of some of the West London Fairs, but with reasonable prices, and it sits nicely just above central London.

I strongly believe in finding the best for my clients, at the right prices. If you want to find something very special then I have just the thing for you. I am offering 5 mini consultations at the next fair. For 45 minutes you have me all to yourself. Trust me I am very good at knowing if something is going to fit or not, and I will be on site before the fair opens to get the first look. One lucky client can even book the coveted ‘trade slot’ which starts at 10.am. This normally costs £10 alone for entry and with a booking starting at £25 this works out at £15! You can also book with a friend for only £40. All other bookings get free entry to the fair included in the price . To prebook a slot pls email me naomi@naomithompson.co.uk
To continue with what will be a really busy day, from 4 pm I will be with my favourite ladies, the Vintage Mafia at the Love Shack in Shoreditch, for our monthly sale and social! This Month we are excited to welcome a capsule collection of quality menswear from Auntie Maureen and Vintage Hair and Make-Up from Miss Honey Bare. For more info see here.
I hope to see some of you Sunday!

Million Dollar Quartet comes to The West End
As a big fan of the 1950s, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and musicals, I personally am particularly excited about this Vintage Secret announcement. Coming soon to the West End is a spectacular musical, featuring music from the most exciting decade in 20th Century music history. With a song list that will have everyone tapping their feet, there’s bound to be dancing in the aisles!
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, the new West End musical that tells the electrifying story of the night in 1956 when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis came together to make music and ended up making history, will star Ben Goddard (Jerry Lee Lewis), Derek Hagen (Johnny Cash), Francesca Jackson (Dyanne), Robert Britton Lyons (Carl Perkins) and Michael Malarkey (Elvis Presley), joining the previously announced Bill Ward (Sam Phillips).
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET features over 20 classic hits including: Blue Suede Shoes, I Walk The Line, Fever, Great Balls of Fire, Hound Dog, Folsom Prison Blues and Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.
MILLLION DOLLAR QUARTET will open at London’s Noël Coward Theatre on 28 February 2011 with previews from 8 February 2011. Tickets are now on sale here
